A war took place at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois. In his first bout since losing to Humberto Soto last March, former WBC lightweight champion David Diaz (36-3-1, 17KOs) used every piece of his will to outlast Robert Frankel (27-10-1, 4KOs) over ten round of action. Frankel, in his first fight since March 2009, is considered an upset-artist with many victories achieved while being considered the big underdog. He came close to another upset by being able to stand in and trade with Diaz without stepping back. The scores were 97-93 and 96-94 for Diaz and 95-95 for the draw.
