Comments Thread For: Paul McCloskey Moves On, Eyes April WBC Title Eliminator

According to a report in the Belfast Telegraph, European light welterweight champion Paul McCloskey is being lined up for a world title eliminator at the King’s Hall in April. Promoter Barry Hearn is going to make the necessary moves after his negotiations to make a fight with Amir Khan fell apart on Thursday. Hearn was trying to put the finishing touches on a deal where McCloskey would challenge Khan for the WBA 140-pound title on April 16 at the MEN Arena in Manchester.

it'll become vacant if Bradley wins i think, so the eliminator might end up being a fight for the vacant belt

I dont think Barry hearns wanted the fight for Mccloskey yet to be honest, I guess they wanted him to defend his title at euro level before going for an eliminator or hoping one of the champ at 140 vacates.

seems the most logical fight anyway.

Morales is fighting JMM at LW next so i wander how that will affect his ranking?

hearn is misguided. bradley beats alexander and khan beats bradley and unifies 3 belts by july.
mccloskey wont get anywhere near khan or the WBC belt after that.
he should have taken his chance when it was offered.
too many boxers turning their noses up because they know they are beaten before the get in the ring and missing out on career high purses and the opportunity to make a name for themselves. guess we call it bertonomics!

You might be a little too high on Khan. He could barely get by Maidana, what makes you think he will beat Bradlye and Alexander? If Maidana had put that pressure on him around round six or seven Khan would have been stopped. Maidana is slow compared to Bradley and Alexander. Khan wouldn't have that luxury to out box either Bradley or Alexander as he did with Maidana.
