Normally when I do interviews it's with fighters, trainers, promoters, managers, etc. Once and awhile I like to mix it up and speak to some folks outside of the ring and get their thoughts on the sport of boxing. The Super Bowl is right around the corner. Two evenly matched teams, The Pittsburgh Steelers and The Green Bay Packers will square off and by Sunday night, one of them will be the Super Bowl Champions.
I thought it would be fitting to speak with a Green Bay Packer, and behold, I found one. I spoke with former Pro Bowl, former Super Bowl winning Running Back Dorsey Levens. Currently, he is working on a stage play called, "Stripped" and a film documentary called "Bell Rung" which will profile concussions in professional sports.
Levens is a big boxing fan, and just like millions of others he wants to see the big one between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Levens told this writer that the only thing he wants to see in boxing is the big one, "I used to like the heavyweight division, but since there's nothing much going on there, all I want to see is Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr fight."
The former Super Bowl winning Running Back added, " I think Mayweather is ducking Pacquiao. It just doesn't make any sense to me. Why would he not sign to fight Pacquiao?"
That's the big question, and hopefully now that both Roger and little Floyd will be avoiding jail time, perhaps we can get some progress on it.
By the way, Levens not surprisingly is predicting Green Bay to win.
Mississippians overwhelmingly want to see the big one. Mayweather Vs. Pacquiao, it's still has the ring of music in my ears. I spoke with Timothy McFarland of Byram, MS yesterday. He too still had the dream alive that the big fight will one day happen, " I still hold onto hope. I think eventually both sides will come together and they will grind out a deal."
Only time will tell if it will happen or not. Is Mayweather going to duck again? Or will he step up and fight? Hopefully we will see the two best finally go at it.
