Point is, floyd didn't make those big numbers in the Oscar and Mosley fight by himself like he and some followers like to believe.Where were his big numbers before he got to DeLahoya? If he really had a large american fanbase like Leonard,Tyson, and Oscar had... he wouldv'e easily sold big numbers vs baldomir, no?
Mike tyson got 1.55 million buys against McNeely (fight lasted 89 sec) and 1.4 million buys in fights against the likes of Frank Bruno, Razor Ruddock, and Bruce Seldon.
All this without a 24/7, which would've made those numbers skyrocket considering America's obsession with Mike's antics.
Floyd without 24/7 wasn't as big a draw as Pacquiao because he was relying on his fighting style to sell fights. Every poll taken on the subject has shown that the vast majority of people who watch Mayweather fights do so because they're hoping to see him lose, only a small fraction watch because they like his style/skills...they meaning boxing purists! And the other half of that fraction are the *****s who just likes the guy!
The bad guy persona and 24/7 has made a floyd a big draw, that's not necessarily the same as being popular. Lets face it, to boxing purists he's talented and skilled boxer...to *****s he's GOD but to the regular average boxing fan (which out numbers boxing aficionados and *****s) he's not that appealing stylewise... He's a Great salesman though!
