Sergio Martinez: Will He Ever Face Cotto, Mayweather or Pacquiao?

About two months ago, I interviewed the former WBC Super Welterweight Champion, Sergio Martinez (46-2-2, 25 KO's) at the Nov. 27 Marquez-Katsidis event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. We talked about his future and goals that he wants to accomplish before retiring.

Most fans want to see Martinez try to get his belt back from Pacquiao. Although Sergio Martinez has stated numerous times that the Pac-Man may be too small for him, it's quite hard not to believe that Pacquiao-Martinez would be a great war.

However, Martinez clearly told me that if he had the chance to fight Mayweather or Pacquiao, he would rather fight Mayweaher; because Floyd's one of his idols and would be good for his career.

A fight with Mayweather sounds fictional at this moment. However, it would be great news if they ever come to an agreement.

But just because Martinez said he would pick Mayweather over Pacquiao; it doesn't mean he would not fight Manny Pacquiao.

"If Pacquiao wants to do a 153 pound catch-weight or somewhere around their, we can probably make it work. But I don't really know right now, I want Miguel Cotto first," Martinez said.

I know that some boxing fans want to see Pirog vs. Martinez, when I asked him about that fight ever happening; he stated, "I want to fight fighters that have a good history in the sport of Boxing. In order to become the pound for pound king, you have to beat the best. I want to fight Miguel Cotto and then hopefully fight Mayweather one day."

So for those of you that are waiting for a Martinez-Pirog fight will need to have a lot of faith and stay positive, since Martinez does not seem too interested in that fight.

If Miguel Cotto defeats Ricardo Mayorga, there's a chance Sergio Martinez could meet Cotto later in the year. There are many possible fights for Martinez, but he's only interested in fighting against top fighters, which seems hard to accomplish, since no one really wants to step in the ring against him.

Sergio Martinez will be back in action on March 12 against Sergiy Dzinziruj (37-0, 23 KO's) It should be a good fight, although it will be competing against Showtime's Cotto-Mayorga, another interesting fight.

    He's so sexy...

Arum will never let Cotto near Martinez. Possibly if he loses to Margarito, but not as long as he is winning and making money.

Manny and Floyd with stick to 147.

None of them will fight Sergio. No chance.

Why is he scared to fight someone his own size? Pac and Mayweather are 147ers. Cotto has fought once at 154.

I know hes after a career payday but does he have to force a catchweight against a welterweight when hes a legit middle/supermiddleweight?

God I hope so. If he doesn't it won't be Sergio's fault.

              Martinez-Dzinziruk is where it's at.

Wonder if it would be for two belts.

March 12th is a good fight.

I get the feeling that the only 1 of those 3 who isn't scared to step into the ring with Sergio is Cotto.Floyd is retired & probably gonna try & rob the sport of some more money in his return against Spadafora. In Pacman's case Martinez has look phenomenal in his last few fights,he has to look like garbage in at least 2 fights to fit into the Pacman sweepstakes.

If fighter want to be great they must move up and fight bigger fighter, don't pick on the smaller man. Cotto, Pacquiao, and Mayweather are to samll for him.
