Germany has the world's oldest Universal Health Care System. Can someone explain how Briggs was not covered under that umbrella and forced to pay out of pocket.

It seems to me he would have been forced to pay some German taxes out of his purse and would also be eligible for certain health care rights as a result?

He's not the first fighter to be badly hurt in a fight, many have been hurt worse in fights where they made significantly less. How can he get such a raw deal on this one, in a country with such a progressive health care system no less?

I dont know the specifics in the german health system, but normally the health system takes care of their own citizens and taxpayers. For instance if you get an illness while on holiday you will have to pay your medical bill by yourself or have your own government or insurance pay it.

The fact that Briggs was presented the bill seems standard procedure to me. That he apparently got screwed by his promotor/manager is also standard procedure in boxing unfortunately.

There's screwing and then there's screwing. The extent to which he was screwed (assuming he's telling the truth) is not standard procedure. But if he's telling the truth, then he should have no problem winning the court case, so we'll see.
