Comments Thread For: Winky Wright: If Macklin Wins, Maybe It's Time To Retire

Closing in on the end of his career, middleweight contender Ronald "Winky" Wright (51-5, 25KOs) returns for the first time in two years when he faces EBU champion Matthew Macklin (28-2, 19KOs) on April 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The former undisputed junior middleweight champion spoke with Suge Green of OnTheGrind Boxing Radio and gave his reason for accepting a fight with Macklin after two years of being inactive, and explained why he turned Macklin down last year.

i guess winky will go down as one of those cats who was just too good for his own good...at the same time he was never a big marquee draw...never graduated from being a high risk, no reward type of fighter...probably why hopkins avoided him when he was at 160 squashing welterweights and winky was the legit 154 champ...

i think his biggest mistake was not rematching taylor....the first fight ended in a draw and was pretty exciting...just hope he invests his $ come retirement...much respect winky

Winky should not even be fighting anymore. Dude has nothing to offer as a fighter at this point.

As soon as the p-dub fight was over he should of just found any bum and beat him to end the career at least on a W.he's not even gatekeeper status and once a high profile prospect beats him the name recognition on the resume shouldn't even hold weight anymore.win or lose here , he should retire.

Winky needs to wake the heck up. He just think high profile fights are supposed to land in his lap because of what he's done in the past. Dude hasn't been relevant in I don't know how long and just thought he'd get a Martinez or somebody like that in the ring? You gotta do something to get something Winky and getting shut out by Pwill in your last fight 2 years ago doesn't exactly scream PPV attraction. I like Winky man, but I won't pretend like he didn't price himself out of a lot of high profile fights. His negotiating tactics(or lack thereof) are well known.
