Comments Thread For: Ponce De Leon: Beating Broner Will Lead To a Title

Former champion Daniel Ponce de Leon (41-2, 34 KOs) feels that a win over super featherweight prospect Adrian Broner (19-0, 16KOs) will lead to a world title shot. They will clash on March 5 on the Matthew Hatton-Saul Alvarez undercard in Anaheim, California. Ponce de Leon will be moving up to fight the bigger man. He feels the risk is worth it because it will lead to possible rematch with WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez, who knocked Ponce out in one round a few years ago.

Broner is just a kid. Broner beating Ponce would be huge for him but Ponce beating Broner not so much. I think Broner is the best American prospect but he is still just a prospect.

I didnt ask him, but I think he wont fight him either. Juanma really wants that fight with Gamboa. He wants to silence some people. He said that Gamboa is fast but for 4 rounds only and then starts to pitty-pat and move a lot. He says it will be easier than Marquez or Rojas.

I think the only prospect he would be willing to face if he doest get the Marquez rematch is Mickey Garcia in july, because after is Gamboa and then 130, he needs to move up.

in my opinion they are just throwing broner to the wolves & seeing if he can survive or not.....other prospects aren't treated this way. but we will see what happens......
