Former four time heavyweight champion Evander “The Real Deal” Holyfield (43-10-2, 28 KOs) and Sherman “Tank” Williams (34-11, 19 KOs) fought to a three round no-contest on at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West ******ia. Holyfield suffered a cut in the second round after a clash of heads. He was being busted up in the third and then told his corner before the start of the fourth that he was unable to see and the bout was stopped. Photos by Tri Nguyen

This fight should have been on ESPN! I know Holyfield needs money but after this debacle of a PPV, who's gonna pay to see Holyfield square off with another tomato can. Holyfield should line up three tomato cans (starting with Brian Nielsen) and fight them all on ESPN every couple of months. Then maybe in October, he can get lucky enough to fight David Haye since Haye is scared ****less of the Klit brothers. Or if David Haye refuses to fight him, then he can fight a Valuev or somebody for the vacant title after Haye retires...

3 fights on espn sounds pretty decent, im not sure if theyll turn him down or not..but its worth a try. valuev already beat him, didnt he? i think evander should retire, but his last resort can be headlining espn cards, doesnt seem unlikely for it happen...

why at 49 does he have a fight last night and another lined up in march!.

im not sure any 49 year old human body can be tough enough to withstand punches, cuts and types of punishment.

especially as long as holyfields been going.

and for him to quit on a cut,get his own payback of butts and complain, come on! lol.

at first i thought he had vision troubles and had to stop through danger of losing eyesight, but i think he just looked for a way out,he was in there and thought what am i doing here still,or i dont wana lose this and lose getting my next fight on still.

Holyfeild finaly got a cut from a headbutt, now he knows how Tyson felt. The only difference he quit and Tyson tried to fight through his in the first fight and in the second one he just said enough is enough.

I think the deal is this. Holyfield is old and probably has trouble seeing the punches coming anyway. So, the cut just amplified that and in the third round, he ate some big shots and was shaken up which probably was in part due to the cut. The thing is a loss now would be devastating, so he took the easy way out to avoid another loss. It sucks to see a guy who never quit look for a way out but even a huge fan like myself (he was my favorite fighter when in his prime) has to admit that that is what happened...

I agree that Holyfield should retire but his financial difficulties (regardless of what he says) prevent that from happening. The reason I mentioned Valuev is because most observers (including everyone in the arena) thought Holyfield won their first fight except for two judges. I think if nothing else he earned a rematch and the only way he would fight Valuev again would be for a belt. So, I hypothesized if that Haye refused to fight him and retired, maybe Holyfield would get a second shot at the vacant belt against a guy the WBA continues to rank highly...

Holyfield did get a taste of his old medicine in this fight however I don't think that Holyfield intentionally butted Tyson. Even the annoucement crews of Bobby Czyz and Steve Alberts said that in the 7th round of their first fight the headbutt was not intentional, there heads just clashed when they both just came together to punch. Holyfield didn't start to use his head as a lethal weapon until the Lennox Lewis fights, where you could see him getting frustrated and looking for some way to get an advantage...

Not really. Anybody who watched the fight knows Holyfield was the real winner. It was just a typical euro robbery.

Holyfield was losing and Williams was landing those overhand rights at his leisure. Evander could have been KOed embarrassingly later on.
