U know like i know, HBO didnt want nothing to do with fight because it isnt marketable as you claim. How many times does mosley have to lose before hbo doesnt front him?? TWICE!!!!

People that watch HBO, buy PPV, and tune into boxingscene are the ones who knows about this fight etc. Just because its on showtime, doesnt mean it will someone create more views....NO ONE WANTS to see this fight PERIOD...showtime is only fronting this because they havent had a big PPV fight in a while..

I agree with you for lots of the reasons you have detailed however; looking from another perspective, this could also hurt boxing. It will all depend on how it unfold, and here is the other perspective or possibility.

We all know that some potential, good fights have been very difficult to sign or have not happened at all for the distance between the promotors or there williness/greed to keep all in house. Now we will also have boxer that not only have different promotors but will have different preferred network and/or the fighters might start getting contracts from these TV networks making the distance and level of negotiating even tougher than what it currently is.

Lets take for example Berto who is under contract with HBO and lets say that we would like to see him against a Cotto who signs with Showtime (example only). Besides Berto not being under Top Ranks, now the TV network contract will interfere also. Once again this is just and example.

Lets hope it doesn't get to this level and the competetion between these 2 networks just increase the effort of these companies to bring better quality fights.

By the way I like the aggressiveness because they accepted to present Cotto-Mayorga in PPV to challenge HBO non PPV card of Sergio Martinez.

I know Cotto-Mayorga will not sell a million or even a 1/2, but whatever it sells, will hurt badly the TV ratings that night for HBO.
This should put HBO on alert and to push for better quality fights.

I agree, however, it looks like HBO is one step ahead. Martinez-Dzinziruk is a solid, no-frills non-PPV matchup. Exactly what I might've expected to see on their network a decade ago. Nowadays, it seems as if they just accidentally fall upon those kinds of matchups. That they actually pushed Martinez into this speaks volumes. I'd like to hope it's because the budget's getting tight and they're going a new route but I'm not quite convinced. Maybe this forces HBO to return to what they used to be. Competition is never bad and it's not like Arum is going to be able to sell crappy PPV bouts to Showtime forever. He'll have to step his game up as well.

Agreed, specially on the bold. I hope they do this with all their fighters including Berto. Let see if the start demanding better opponents from him also. Will See.

However IMO the PPV issue with Martinez does not apply yet even if they wanted. Martinez fan Base is not that big to put him on a PPV card unless his accompanied with a Pacman, PBF, Cotto, JCCJ and maybe just maybe Margo. Other than those fighters I really thought that Martinez could do well on PPV and this is including Mosley. This goes kind of hand to hand with th budget subject you brought up. Shame because he is a good fighter to watch.

I think a more accurate statement is that YOU don't want to see this fight. Though it is within the realm of reason to think that HBO won't market the Pac/Mosley fight cuz they don't think it would sell, who's to say it won't do well under showtime?

Great news.

HBO is as inconsistent as a prime James Toney (Toney's one of my favorite fighters, but real is real).

This change was needed and will be a breath of fresh air, constant promotion on CBS to mainstream America will inject extra PPV buys. The question isn't if, but how many it does add and if it's substantial enough to make CBS get into boxing on a consistent basis.
