There are conflicting reports in the Mexican media as to whether or not a deal was reached for a fight between Mexican legends Juan Manuel Marquez and Erik Morales. ESPN Deportes issued a report that Marquez was not able to reach an agreement with Golden Boy Promotions during a Thursday meeting to discuss the financial details involved with a Morales fight. Other Mexican outlets countered the report from ESPN Deportes, by stating that a deal was indeed reached and Marquez will received $2.5 million for the fight, with Morales getting $1 million. Some of these outlets claimed to have received their information from Golden Boy President Oscar De La Hoya. Deportes have stated that their information came from Marquez, but it was noted that a deal was still possible in the coming days.
