The deadline is noon today for Adamek vs. Klitschko to be signed

Tomasz Adamek will fight Sam Peter in Poland in April as part of the IBF four-fighter eliminator unless he signs a contract to fight a Klitschko by noon EST today.

That's about 3 1/2 hours from now. The IBF need an answer by that time, or they will select another IBF contender, perhaps Arreola, Thompson or Helenius to participate in the four-fighter box off and fight Sam Peter (Eddie Chambers is fighting Dereck Rossy as the other part of this four fighter eliminator).

If an agreement is reached, Adamek will fight a less dangerous opponent than Peter in April.

Welcome to The Ring. The bible of boxing. All access to boxing's latest news, matches, fights and events.

The representatives of heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and Tomasz Adamek remain in negotiations and are optimistic the fighters will meet in September in Poland.

Kathy Duva of Main Events, the promoter of Tomasz Adamek, was waiting late Tuesday afternoon to receive a draft of a proposed contract after discussing details with Klitschko’s representatives.

“We’re progressing,” she said. “I feel good about it but you never know. This is boxing.”

Tom Loeffler, Managing Director over K2 Promotions, also is positive but guarded.

“Both sides want to make the fight happen,” he said. “There are some issues to work out but, at least with Adamek, we know he definitely wants to fight. That wasn’t the case with (Alexander) Povetkin and (David) Haye, who pulled out of fights with the Klitschkos.

“We feel good that Adamek would actually get into the ring and fight.”

Meanwhile, Adamek has an interim fight to deal with.

The former light heavyweight and cruiserweight titleholder was called to take part in an IBF title eliminator against Sam Peter but must decide by noon (ET) Thursday whether to take part.

Duva said she would accept that opportunity if a solid deal to fight Klitschko isn’t in place by the dealine. If an agreement is reached, she said, Adamek would face a lesser opponent as a tune-up in April.

Klitschko is scheduled to fight journeyman Dereck Chisora on April 30.

“If you said to me, ‘You have a week to get (the Klitschko fight) done, I’d say we’d get it done.’ The problem is that we have less than 48 hours. Can we get it done in that time frame? I don’t know. If we don’t, we’ll be fighting Sam Peter.

“I want to be clear that this isn’t any kind of ultimatum. We just can’t pass up an opportunity to become a mandatory challenger.”

An Adamek-Peter fight wouldn’t preclude an Adamek-Klitschko fight in September.

“They’ve made their position clear,” Loeffler said. “If they can’t work out a deal with us, they’ll take part in the purse bid. That doesn’t mean we couldn’t make a deal later if both sides are still interested. Even if Adamek fights Peter, we’d still leave the door open for a fight in September.

“It’s hard to say what would happen but we definitely see Adamek as a viable opponent.”

Could an Adamek victory over an opponent of Peter’s name recognition actually make a Klitschko-Adamek fight more valuable?

    “It couldn’t hurt,” Loeffler said.

So that means Haye has only a few hours to stop ducking, come to his senses if he really wants this fight, and call Wlad up?

What if Eddie Chambers wins the box-off, which is highly possible, do we see Wlad vs Eddie II?

I don't want to see that again.

I agree, no need for Wlad-Chambers II or Wlad-Peter III.

But I'd love to see Chambers-Adamek.

Peter-Adamek and Wlad-Adamek would be good too.

I watch every Adamek fight 'cause he's one of my favourite fighters, but Adamek vs Wlad would be mega.

If Wlad and Adamek's team reach a deal so that rules out a Haye fight for the rest of the year?

And according to Haye, he's done with boxing at the end of the year.

          This is fucked up.

The contract is for Adamek to fight a Klitschko, whichever one is available at the time. Not necessarily Wlad.

So the door is still open for Wlad-Haye - keep in mind, Wlad prefers to fight Haye more than any other opponent.

But honestly, Haye never had any intentions of fighting a Klitschko. He just used them to make a name for himself.

Is a Wlad vs Haye fight possible late this year?

Wlad is figthing Chisora in April.

Is Haye going to fight Ruslan? When?

Vitali is fighting Solis in March? So will he be free to fight Adamek?

I don't think Peter would get passed Eddie Chambers.

Wlad-Haye is definitely possible at least from Wlad's side later this year.

I'm not sure if Haye is going to fight Ruslan or not. The fight might need to be in Germany because of Chagaev's Hep B antigen and Haye may not want to go there. Still, Chagaev is a shot fighter so Haye will not duck him and has already said he'll fight him.

If Vitali beats Solis in March, he'll be free of any mandatories for the rest of 2011 and so be able to fight whoever and whenever he wants.
