Boxing is a sensitive game. If promoters matched up their fighters with the fans choice every time they fought then the anticipation of the mega fights would never happen, boxers would simply lose more often.
Come on, how many fighters, in the grand scheme of things, fight the VERY best opponents EVERY TIME they fight???
Perhaps Carl Froch could lay claim, but i assure you, had he not had the safety net of the SS then would he have easily got another crack at the WBC title in his very next fight? Manny between 2003-2006 perhaps is another exception, and again, he still lost one of those fights.
Boxers are ALWAYS protected by promoters, managers, trainers.
The boxers themselves are often more than willing to fight the best, but advice is always to the contrary for the sake of the fighters career, as well as that of those around them.
Boxing is a delicate game, this is why the have match makers.
Putting Khan in against Prescott is a BIG gamble for Khan’s promoters, would you risk everything when you could take a safer option and still come out of it financially sound and reputation intact?
Come on, we’re all fans, sure, but we know the way the game works, and it’s not going to change anytime soon.
The BIG fights DO happen, but the build up is long, arduous and frustrating (take note Haye/Ks and co.)
At the end of the day these men have more guts them most of us fans put together, a fact needed to be remembered.
