Comments Thread For: Promoters Believe Alexander-Bradley Bigger Than The Site

Co-promoters Big Gary Shaw and Don King did not mention any specifics, gave no numbers as to ticket sales at the Pontiac Silverdome, site of the Jan. 29 highly-publicized Devon Alexander-Tim Bradley junior welterweight unification, but they did present a united front on a recent media conference call.

The only thing this will show is that Detroit's economy is in the dark ages.

Alexander is a hype job who got badly exposed by Kotelnik.

Shaw is trying to compare Bradley/Alexander with Corrales/Castillo I, before the fight has even taken place!

what this shows is that shaw is nothing but a glorified booking agent and that king has fallen off.

a fight of this magnitude deserves a bigger audience. st. lou should've been selected.

Gary Shaw is right. Tickets mean nothing in this type of fight. The new owners of the Silverdome paid Shaw/King like $600K for the fight. So they are are happy with that. Theyre not going to invest more to sell tix cause most of that $ is the owner of the domes and King/Shaw know it will be a hard sell. Now its the dome owners job to sell it too but they dont care, they want the fight to give tickets to corporations, local politicians, unions, etc. and to have it on a big TV event like this one. They bought this fight as an investment to promote the dome for future events. The Silverdome was pretty much unused since the Lions left. The new owners of the Dome bought it for only $583,000 but the place was dead. They got it for that price from Pontiac cause they promised to invest big $$$. They are just trying to build it back up, marketing the Dome through big TV events. The night of the fight, there will probably be 5,000-7,000 people there, the place will look great, and it'll look like a big event. Mostly by giving away tickets. The winner of the fight will look like a star, and the Silverdome will look like a great place again.
