Sergio should just reject the status if he has to pay fees for the prestigious diamond belt because he is already the legitimate MW champion with or without any dust collectors.

martinez does nothing but get in there with tough fighters,williams twice,pavlik,we all know he beat cintron,and now with dzinziruk who has been a champ for a while..no easy fights here for martinez

great move by the wbc.

Sergio is still the champ, but he isn't obligated to fight b.s. mandatories such zbik or whoever the wbc comes up with.

He can now float around....take Cotto fight, any top guy at 154, and even a bout at 168, and not worry about losing his championship status.

Then when he want's the regular strap, all he has to do is tell the wbc, and the guy with the belt (prob Chavez) will have to drop everything he is doing (any madatory/upcoming fight) and face him.


Most won't like this move, but given Sergio's circumstance (he is up in age and wants to take money fights) this actually works in Martinez favor.

I am actually in 100% agreement with this. I think Sergio has earned such a honor.
