great move by the wbc.

Sergio is still the champ, but he isn't obligated to fight b.s. mandatories such zbik or whoever the wbc comes up with.

He can now float around....take Cotto fight, any top guy at 154, and even a bout at 168, and not worry about losing his championship status.

Then when he want's the regular strap, all he has to do is tell the wbc, and the guy with the belt (prob Chavez) will have to drop everything he is doing (any madatory/upcoming fight) and face him.


Most won't like this move, but given Sergio's circumstance (he is up in age and wants to take money fights) this actually works in Martinez favor.

Another thing that would work in Sergio's favor is the fact Martinez vs Chavez could be a good money fight for him.

There might be 30 people who show up for Martinez vs Zbik (A fight I know Sergio really doesn't wan to waste his time on), but if Chavez can take care of that for him, he can then force a bout with Chavez.

Chavez vs Martinez is Mexico for the MW title would do huge numbers, on top of building a name for himself amongst Mexican boxing fans.
