Mikkel Kessler (43-2, 32KOs) is hoping to start sparring for a return in March and then fight again by May or June. Kessler has not been in the ring since last April WBC title victory over Carl Froch. He left the Super Six tournament after suffering an eye injury and experiencing double-vision in the gym. Kessler is the WBC's Champion Emeritus, which allows him to get an immediate challenge at the champion Froch.

Champion emeritus means champion in recess and a guaranteed shot at the titleholder when he wants. Just like Vitali Klitschko who was out for a number of years due to injury. He retained his emeritus-title and got a shot when he was ready to return.

People need to stop acting like Kessler needs to do anything to get a shot at thew inner of the super 6. He'd still have a belt if it wasnt for injury, that means he gets a shot at whomever has it. Its simple. Why fight Bute for a shot when he is already entitled to one. If he fights Ward anywhere outside of Ward's backyard, he will beat him.
