it protects the body and head at the same time..ive never seen someone fight out of that style get hurt to the body
why arnt more fighters taught how to fight out of the philly shell?

because it's a very hard style to pull-off not not everyone can do it right, so they opt out for the more common defensive stance.Comment

Philly shell is something you do when you're completely on the defensive. 70% of your defense is the stance, and 28% is your movement, the rest is based on the way you cover up (which really doesn't happen often, this is the the Fight Night video games). A basic stance that preps for Philly shell normally has the front hand low and at the waist and the back hand near the chin. To execute an offense from that position is hard and requires speed to be successful. Try to find a successful fighter who fights with his hands low and doesn't have good speed.
The Philly shell should only be used by fighters who have the physical attributes to use it.Comment

I use it when I spar...if I know my opponent throws fast punches with reach then it will be kinda hard to weave and slip so in a case of emergency I clam
up that defense when I'm having trouble timing or if I'm against the ropes and counter on the inside...it's a good style to learn if
you're in trouble...Comment
