  • Why doesnt the television networks just scrap all these alphabet titles?

Showtime, HBO, SKY, ESPN, RTE etc just combine, make 1 champion, 1 set of rules, 1 TOP TEN, A RATINGS SYSTEM, A points sytem for referees meaning they get replaced if they are incompotent, same with judges. THEY HAVE THE POWER, THEY HAVE THE MONEY. The promoters are NOTHING without them, look at at Don King, frozen out

GET THESE ****ING WBC, IBF, WBA AND THE WORST OF THE LOT, THE WB ****ING O, aka the FWBO, THE FRANK WARREN BOXING ORGANISATION, SAY TO THEM, 'HEY, GO **** YOURSELF'

any other suggestions? why is this far-fetched? they have the power, THIER IS far far far to many world champions, thats why guys like David Haye are allowed to cheat the fans, and he can say 'OH, I was a world champ at heavyweight' NO YOU WHERE NOT DAVID. NO YOU WHERE NOT. YOU WHERE THE WBA CHAMP

A PETITON, IV HAD ENOUGH OF THIS BULL****.

    and breath.

The TV networks benefit from titles why would they want to reduce the amount? More casuals watch the fight if it's a world title fight.

i think there should be 2 titles and the ring mag. that way, we still get unifications if we are lucky!

Yeah true, more people watch title fights, not unknown contender matchups, who usually fight only in undercards. Networks rating would drop with one champion per division, would be the same Hopkins case where you have to pick one unknown contender and promote fight.

No, we're just telling you that it's not in the interest of the TV networks.

No, i think what these guys are trying to say is that with all the money involved and other politics in boxing, these leeches will not be going away anytime soon. HBO, showtime ect simply cannot put these people out of business. Look at march 12, hbo didn't pay arum for his garbage ppv so he went somewhere else (showtime.) Hbo then decided to have their own show with martinez. If HBO and others turn them down, promoters will go somewhere else with their fighters and their toy belts

make a loss, to make a profit

television companies had no problem with contender vs contender fights in the 70's and 80's

I don't know what was the situation in networks 70s and 80s. But biggest fights in history are champion against champion, not champion against contender.

Rumble in Jungle: Champion Foreman against old champion Ali.
Thrilla in Manila: Two champions Ali and Frazier clashing for the third fight.
Chavez vs Taylor: champion vs champion
De La Hoya vs Trinidad:champion vs champion
                    Chavez vs Whitaker:champion vs champion
                    Hopkins vs DLH/Trinidad:champion vs champion
                    SRL vs Duran:champion vs champion
                    SRL vs Hearns:champion vs champion

I mean champion vs contender doesn't fill arenas, doesn't draw flies to s**t.
