How could you say only the cut was bothering him against Lewis? Did you even see that fight? Did you see the shots Vitali took in that fight? I'd say that was definitely his toughest fight. If he would have quite, I wouldn't blame him. But when he quite against Byrde, I was shocked, Vitali looked fine compared to the Lewis fight. Sanders was also a tough fight for Vitali. Based off those two, an old out of shape Lewis, and old Sanders, Vitali was an alright fighter but not great at all. definitely better than his brother though.

Go watch the first three rounds of his bout with corrie Sanders he got caught with some good shots and was reeling at times. Thats the only time i can remember him hurt and a bit wobbly.

Yea Sanders was a true beast when he was on the attack. Too bad he doesn't get himself in good shape for fights, really could have been much more than he was.

Corrie could still give and take even though he wasn't in the best shape, that's the toughness that sets him apart from other guys like Wlad, who although always is in shape,is not as tough as his older bro and Sanders.

Lewis obviously, but Vitali wasn't 100% in that bout or Sanders (the injuries that retired him were still taking injections) but he still out boxed Lewis. Vitali has been amazingly super dominant since he came back, the rest did him good. I doubt he'd still be fighting as well if he'd not taken that hiatus.

Corrie Sanders was a beast, which is why it pisses me off when people call him a fat bum, fat golfer etc. That "fat golfer" had some of the fastest and hardest hands in the division at the time and was a nightmare for anyone in the first few rounds. Kinda like a HW Zab Judah.

Oh, and the Lewis fight was quite clearly the toughest fight of his career. Sanders gave him his hariest moment and was the closest to knocking him down in that first round, but other than that Vitali had things relatively his own way. Lewis on the other hand was consistently landing hard, hard shots to Vitali throughout the fight and looked likely to stop him had the fight gone on past the sixth. Everyone mentions the uppercut, but watch the effect Lewis's jabs were having on Vitali. They were jarring him to the bones and stopping him in his tracks. Watch also the number of heavy overhand rights he was landing in close, and the nasty punches he was catching Vitali with in the clinches, including the one near the end of the sixth that stunned him and had him desperate to hold on. Watch also the increasing lack of effect Vitali's shots were having on Lewis as the fight went on, and the way he was slowly getting bullied and pushed back by Lewis's assault. No one's ever done that to Vitali before or since.
