  • Comments Thread For: Saul Alvarez Eyes Title Eliminator After Senchenko Bails

The opportunity for Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez to fight for a world championship will have to wait. The negotiations between Alavrez's promoter Golden Boy Promotions, and WBA welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko, fell apart. Golden Boy President Oscar De La Hoya informed Alvarez's manager Eddy Reynoso that Senchenko refused to come over to the United States for the fight. Alvarez is set to return on March 5.

when u come to think about it...none of the eastern european (including german) champions have got any balls have they!
but as long as they are happy to pay sanctioning fees they keep hold of alphabet belts

Thats why cotto had to fight the weakest tittle holder when he moved up right? Or how bout him fighting for his two welter weight belts when they were vacant or how bout him fighting for his first belt when it was vacant? So stfu at least canelo is trying to fight a champ intead of fighting for a vacant belt like your hero.

he fought the weakest title holder because:
                  a) cotto was coming off a brutal loss to pac...who did margarito fight after his suspension? robert 'atg' garcia?
b)foreman is also fighting under the top rank banner. dzinzruk had contract issues, martinez moved up to challenge pavlik, spinks had a fight planned...who else should he have fought at the weight?

cotto fought no one outside of the top 10 after he won his first welterweight title, even gomez was considered #8 when he beat gatti. he fought two ibf titleholders in margarito and clottey, he fought a recently detroned undisputed ww champ in judah, he fought a future and former champ in mosley

clearly canelo opted to take the harder route

Senchenko is a perfect example of why alphabet belts are meaningless. He'd rather stay home "defending" against crappy opposition and polish his undefeated record than fight anybody with a pulse. He beat a nobody to win the "title" and his defenses have been against awful opposition. He wouldn't fight Alvarez if it were held in his basement with all local judges.
