Comments Thread For: Agbeko-Mares, Darchinyan-Perez Eyed For March, April

Ken Thompson, president of Thompson Boxing, is working with Golden Boy Promotions and Gary Shaw to finalize the date and venue for the second half of the bantamweight tournament. The main event will feature the tournament final, with Joseph Agbeko defending his IBF title against undefeated Abner Mares. In the co-feature, the two boxers who lost in the first half of the tournament, Vic Darchinyan and Yonnhy Perez, will collide in a consolation bout.

Yeah that's the great thing about this tournament. The four are all so good every fight is essentially a toss up.

Mares and Vic both win. Donaire beats Montiel.

          After that:

Donaire vs. Mares. [Donaire wins and becomes Lineal Champ]

          Agbeko vs. Montiel [Montiel wins]

Darchinyan vs. Perez rematch [Vic wins]

          After that:

          Donaire vs. Darchinyan rematch

          Montiel vs. Mares

          Bantamweight FTW!

            Mares and Darchinyan FTW.

Though Mares takes it all. And I'd expect Yohnny to give Vic a hard time.

my bet is on mares, but if abedko can box the way he did against perez, mares' pressure style may work against him.

I don't think Vic will win another fight against the top level in bantamweight. I think he is a little past his prime and he doesn't bring enough power to get the respect of the bantamweights. It seemed to me Mares just walked right thru whatever he threw and it was always Vics power that came through when the going got rough. I wouldn't count him out of any fight but I just don't see him beating any of the top dogs at this higher weight...

My money is on Agbeko but I kind of want Mares to win. May the best man win.
