Why Boxing is NOT Dying (ESPN increases boxing budget)

2011 will have 31 cards instead of the 29 which we got in 2010.

They are going to have 22 of the 31 start at 9PM EST.

"And we will have new animation, graphics and music that we will incorporate early on in the season, as well as the addition of ultra slo-mo and a first-ever 3-D telecast for our ESPN3D subscribers."
-Doug Loughrey (ESPN Boxing Program Director)

The network also has more latitude to pay greater license fees than it has in recent years, depending on the quality of the card.
    -Dan Rafael's article on ESPN.com

Each show will also be carried live on ESPN3.com and simulcast in Spanish on ESPN Deportes.

"We will also look for more opportunities to do live boxing content on ESPN3.com in 2011,"
-Doug Loughrey (ESPN Boxing Program Director)

People expect to see good boxing matches about as much as they expect to see the Easter Bunny on Christmas. Luckily for fans, FNF is restoring old glory with a litany of intriguing bouts in '11.

Read that. Also has the upcoming schedule for FNF. I'm hyped for this upcoming season.

If they replaced Teddy Atlas with BJ Flores or Sergio Mora (who worked the Bute-Brinkley fight), the ESPN ratings would improve.

They are making more advertizing money from ESPN3 and ESPN deportes for FNF's now. This is really good news, ESPN3 had some great content last year and it looks like they will continue to kick major ass.

          This is my dream:

Friday Night Fights increases to 40 cards a year.
ESPN airs 5 to 10 Showtime Championship Boxing caliber/price cards a year.
ESPN2 adds a 1 hour weekly boxing show that includes highlights of fights not televised in the US along with standard boxing news analysis.
ESPN3.com airs all televised fights not on United States TV.
