    It was announced in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, that WBA light heavyweight champion Beibut Shumenov (10-1, 6KOs) will defend his title this Saturday against 40-year-old former middleweight champion William Joppy (39-6-2, 30 KOs) who accepted the fight on late notice. Shumenov was going to unify his crown against WBO champion Juergen Braehmer. The German champion withdrew on Tuesday after feeling very ill.

          Joppy is a joke... but then again, so is Shumenov. I can't wait until somebody lifts that belt off him.

            Umm...you do realize it's only his 12th pro fight, right? Cumpillow can get his rematch later.

                that title is on loan till he fights someone with any sort of skills. i was hoping erdei would step in and take it.

                  Wasn't he suppose to retire after Bute? I'm pretty sure they could find someone better than him. Not anyone too dangerous because of the short notice, but at least a tough journeyman that will put up a good fight. Joppy has nothing.

                    Holy crap this is the worst "title defense" of the year! In several years, in fact! We all ridiculed Bute for defending against the incredibly shot Joppy two years ago. Which recent fight "earned" him this title shot: his decision loss to Demers or his draw to Craig Cummings? Both fights were at super middleweight.
                    The WBA and Shumenov should be ashamed to classify this a "title defense," but then again, if Shumenov could be shamed, he would have already given Campillo a rematch
