Comments Thread For: Cordoba Starts Training, Eyes Juanma Shot on April 16

According to reports in Panama, Ricardo 'Maestrito' Córdoba (37-3, 23KOs) has returned to gym to begin training after being named as one of the possible opponents for WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel "Juanma" Lopez on April 16 in Puerto Rico. Juanma's co-promoter Peter Rivera of PR Best Boxing, named Cordoba, and four others, as being in the running to face Juanma in April. Cordoba lost his last bout by split decision to Guillermo Rigondeaux in November. Cordoba is waiting for the okay to move the remainder of his training camp to Florida in the United States.

Cordoba would be a very underwhelming opponent.

Who are the other 3 names?

Well the news here in Puerto Rico is that there are 5 candidates!! Not 3..
1-> is Teon Kennedy who is unknown & fights & is ranked at 122lbs(lower weight class)
2-> is Jason Litzau who fights at 130lbs(higher weight class & would have to come down) & was NEVER even considered until he beat an UNTRAINED & OUT OF SHAPE Caballero(against Litzau, Caballero who most of his carrer fought at 122lbs & like 2 or 3 fights at 126lbs & was fighting in his higest weight ever(130lbs) & had to weigh himself 3 TIMES CAUSE HE COULDN'T MAKE THE WEIGHT!!)
3-> Orlando Salido who's an mediocre ex-champ that lost his title to Gamboa in his last fight..
4-> Philippino Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista who isn't even ranked & got KO'd in the 1st round against Daniel Ponce De Loen & also lost to journey man Heriberto "Cuate" Ruiz..
5-> & of course Ricardo Cordoba..

¿What ever happen to the S H I T Juanma was talking after the Marquez fight? When he said that from NOW ON he's ONLY fighting THE BEST, BIG NAMES & TOP OF THE LINE CONTENDERS!!! These 5 put together don't make it even close to the best list & ain't a big name nor top contender!!!

Out of all 5 Salido would be the best bet, it would be like Gamboa vs Mtawga.

JuanMa probably KO him by vicious elbow in the later rounds and then it would make for a more entertaining bout with Yuriorkis

Lopez is a dud. He seems exciting to some people, but wait until he fights somebody his own age and own size with good skills and we'll see him run like the rest of the overrated blow torchers do.
