Comments Thread For: John Murray a Free Agent, Frank Warren is Interested

According to a report in the Manchester Evening News, unbeaten lightweight contender John Murray (30-0) is on the free agent market after his promotional contract expired with Mick Hennessey. Promoter Frank Warren, who helped make Amir Khan, Ricky Hatton, Joe Calzaghe and Prince Naseem Hamed, wants to make Murray Britain’s next boxing superstar.

i'm from manchester, i live about 15 mins from gallachers gym where murray trains (used to be hattons gym), and as a fan i'm not interested in murray at all really, i think he's overhyped. most mancs will get behind him like they did with hatton, but i don't think he's world class really. degale, brook and cleverly are the future british stars for me.

despite fact i loathe warren its good news for murray. he is still virtually unknown in UK and that says something about how good hennesey is because he is a dynamite fighter. could definitely put a title run together at 135 -140 with the right exposure and warren is well connected. look for him to move up the wbo lightweight rankings soon

It would be a good move for Murray. He needs to fight more often and step up the level of competition or he'll be found out like Mitchell was when he eventually challenges for a title.

It would definatley be a boost for Murrays career if he signed with Warren. But, one thing that does worry me is that Murray still really hasnt fought anyone past domestic level and Frank Warren is known for 'carefully' matching his fighters.

I doubt we will see John Murray in with a live opponent in the forseeable future. Although I would love to see him fight Kevin Mitchell!
