Did RING really pick Pacquiao as FOTY for 2010?

I guess UD's over non champion, non P4P fighter Joshua Clottey & non champion, non P4P fighter, non top 10 ranked Antonio Margarito is better than a UD over WBC/WBO/Ring Middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik and a 2nd round KO of then top 3 P4P Paul Williams.

As much as i enjoy boxing, i gotta agree with ya-i'm gonna end up watching mma frequently instead of boxing at this rate. Just look at UFC's top 2 P4P (Silva and GSP) and compare em to the other two d!ckheds whp are top 2 P4P in boxing (pac and floyd). You can just see which motherfvkers are doing their jobs correctly...

        It's just a fan poll.

Doug Fischer even responded to a writer regarding this.

Welcome to The Ring. The bible of boxing. All access to boxing's latest news, matches, fights and events.

THE RING'S FIGHTER OF THE YEAR

I’ll keep it short and simple. The Ring’s Fighter of the Year was an absolute disgrace. Sergio Martinez clearly should have won!

        All the best. -- Matt

THE RING’s Fighter of the Year hasn’t been announced yet.

You must be referring to the Fighter of the Year result of RingTV.com’s year-end polls hosted by yahoo! Sports. Yeah, I know, Pacquiao won it going away. Big surprise, but who cares?

Polls are popularity contests and there are arguably more PacFanatics for Pacquiao worldwide than there are “Beliebers” for my main man Justin Bieber, the winner of MTV’s Music Video Award for New Artist of the Year (which -- surprise, surprise -- is voted on by fans).

Poor Sergio didn’t have a chance. But don’t worry I’m confident that THE RING’s Editorial Board will make the right choice for Fighter of the Year and the middleweight champ of the world will receive the 2010 honor.

It would be pretty shocking on a couple levels if the Ring did that, but as Fischer said that was just the fan voting.

The Ring editorial board I think would be above a popularity contest but then again if they are losing money and need to sell more magazines (or get more hits) a controversial pick of an extremely popular fighter usually doesn't hurt in those regards.

I thought it was a great fight and both fighters showed a ton of heart. It was my choice.
