I think Lacy could (read: COULD, not would) beat an aging and inactive Byrd and a slow and methodical Ruiz with punching volume and pressure. He would be dismantled by Brewster and Vitali, though.

I should qualify this by saying I am NOT a Lacy fan, but he impressed me with his aggression and intensity in the Reid fight. That said I'll be rooting for Calzaghe IF he gets his ass in the ring.

I think it would be very difficult for a SM weighing no more than a SM to beat a top heavyweight contender since it is really hard to fight a man that much heavier than yourself. It would really take a great boxing talent and not just a particular strong SM to do so.

Nothing's impossible in boxing... This is one crazy f**kin' sport we follow and I've seen some crazy arse things happen.

It's possible a very slick super-middleweight could run for 12 rounds throwing out pitter-pat punches against a bumbling Ruiz and knick it on points.

But don't think it would ever happen against someone like Vitali...

Vitali's just too BIG and too STRONG... His punches would shake up the super-middleweight even through the guard.

Of course it is possible, all you need to do is check out some of the various sparring clips of Sven Ottke stunning Lennox repetedly with the left hook and you will easily envision a scenario where a super middle could ko a top Heavy.

at the moment, there are plenty of skillful super middleweights out there that could easily beat a top 15 heavyweight.

Better question does anybody think Jean Marc Mormeck can be a player in the Heavyweight division?
