A better prepared Naz may have been able to get it done but honestly, Barrera fought a very good tactical fight that night

naseem had the power to ko anybody in the featherweight division thats why hes on ring mazagine hardest punchers

erik morales wouldnt withstand the power of the prince if caught properly just like evrybody else
1st off Morales couldve taken Naz's power shots he had a cast iron chin, 2nd its highly unlikely he wouldve caught Morales cleanly, he didnt come remotely close to landing anything significant on Barrera coz these boys are in a higher league, he wasnt prepared for that step up, someone who wasnt intimidated or mezmerised or as easy to hit

We never really got to see a prime Hamed because as far as I could tell he was on a downward spiral from his early pro years. A cliche i may seem but he had the athleticism to be a RJJ of the lower weight classes. Great reflexes, thunderous power and a natural at punching people in the face, fitted the Ingle style perfectly.

If only he kept the workrate up in between fights. I know there's plenty of people here who think we Brits talk silly about Hamed, but he was a talent - the Gascoigne of boxing.

A fully focused on Boxing Naseem Hamed would have beaten Barrera, knocked him out, I mean come on guys Junior Jones knocked Barrera out, unfortunately because Hamed saw that fight (ring-side) he didn't have any focus, he just figured if he landed 1 good shot it would be over,

unfortunately, he didn't barely train for the fight (only did half a days sparring) and Barrera trained for the fight of his life, Barrera fought the best he ever did, Hamed the worst he ever did and still wasn't knocked down, he lost a lot of rounds but he only lost the fight on points.

It's a shame but Naseem Hamed was more interested in promoting Islam that night then he was winning the bout so that's what he concentrated on because he beleived a KO win was a formality.

He said in an interview a year or so later that although that was his only loss it felt like his biggest victory as it was the night he promoted Islam to the world,

if you don't believe me there is a book about it called Naseem Hamed and those he left behind, unfortunately the whole book is terrible except for the very last chapter.

I respect MAB a lot. But regardless of the opposition Naz fought between 95-98, that was when he was at his best with Brendan Ingle as his trainer.

Would MAB of still beaten Naz during that period? Yes he may well of done. But, in my opinion and it is only my opinion, the Prince would of given him a much tougher night.

The actual fight in 2001 was not an embarassment either like has been stated. Losing approx 8 rounds to 4 to an ATG prime Barrera is NOT an embarassment.
how do u not train for the biggest fight of your career thats naseems fault !!

Jones didn't knock Barrera out. Besides, Barrera was not the same fighter he was in '96.

Most people on this forum know little about Hamed apart from the Barrera fight.

Prime Naz was long gone by the time he got to Barrera. True, Barrera was the best opponent he fought and would have been a tough fight at any point in his career, but this was Hamed at his worst and Barrera at his best. He barely trained, his reflexes had slowed, his evasive defense of old was non-existent and he relied entirely on his power.

Back with Brendan Ingle when Naz was hungry, he was a truly special fighter. Barrera's great, but prime Naz would have beaten him IMO.
