a Union sounds like a great idea, but its extremely complicated to create a good union for a sport like boxing.

man, go cry in a corner. u added absolutely nothing good to the conversation.

but the idea of boxing having some sort of fighters union is top notch. the athletic commissions arent gonna be in the way of that happening. all they are there for is to provide the minimum standards for athletic competition. the problem is undoubtedly the promotional companies and the various boxing organizations. the would undoubtedly refuse to deal with any unions. these ancient ****ers are afraid of change and things like that would bring about drastic change.

Always with a referee appointed by the California Boxing Commission who permits him to deliberately headbutt, hit while holding, and hit off the break.

Always in California, PROTECTED by a home referee who permits him to foul as much as he wants.

And he hasn't fought Froch or Johnson, and never will unless they agree to fight him in his home state of California.

WBA super-middleweight champion Andre Ward has voiced concern for the welfare of professional boxers, calling for a union to protect fighters throughout their careers.

Ward, who is America’s only current Olympic gold medallist to hold a world title, faces the definitive year of his career in which he is tipped to reach the final of the Super Six and even go on to unify the division.

The young champion told Boxing News, ‘I would love to have some kind of union, some kind of board that would oversee the business of boxing. I think it would bring respect to the sport as a whole.

‘There should be someone who’s able to overlook every contract before it’s signed, who’s able to help a fighter highlight certain things that maybe he’d miss.’

‘When the final bell rings and you’ve got to turn your back on the crowd and walk away, do you have health insurance? Do you have life insurance? Something to help guys transition from the sport back to regular life.’

So true. Such a shame this sport has no oversight. And scary. I mean, Roy Jones is still getting licensed to fight. ROY JONES! Margaret Goodman called for them to take away his license six years ago!

Love Andre Ward and I'm glad he's speaking out but in this business, money talks. And right now, less oversight means more money for those in power. Until a boxer stands up - and gets others to get behind him - it'll be more of the same.

I'm for anything that will help fighters in contractnegotiations and the transition from top athlete to a normal life.

I cannot see how it can come to fruition but giving it attention is a step forward.
