    Is Jones-Tarver Cancelled?

I heard some rumors about Roy Jones vs Antonio Tarver fight can be cancelled due to Jose Sulaimon, president of one of the boxing divisions said he wants Roy to take some kind of neurological test because in the Glen Johnson fight, Roy was K.Od cold(he was unnormally KOd on the mat like 10 minutes), I heard the fight might be cancelled or postponed because of the way Roy was KOd. They are concerned for Roys health.

I heard this on L.As (Dave Smith)1540A.M radio The Ticket. I hope its not true, but has anyone else heard about this news.

        hmm

Roy was never out "for 10 minutes" after the fight with Glen Johnson. He was speaking to doctors within a minute or two of being put down and the docs told him to stay down for precautionary reasons. By no means was Roy unconcscious for 10 minutes.

And also, the fight is on.

...For all you diehard Jones fans, I believe it's a real concern and something that Jones ego won't let him consider. He got brutalized and offered no real resistance in that fight before he got KO'd. I thoughthe was gonna die at first. I think he is making a huge mistake by fighting again and predict it will be a mistake that he may regret for the rest of his life. It would be a blessing in disguise if they made him get that brain scan. I would suspect they would find something to keep him out of the ring.

            From *********:

            Jacobs: Sulaiman grandstanding!

Roy Jones Jr's advisor, Brad Jacobs, has dismissed a release by the WBC regarding the health and well being of Jones as grandstanding. "Almost a year has passed since Roy's last fight (September 25, 2004 vs. Glen Johnson in Memphis), and Jose Sulaiman never once thought to pick up the phone and call Roy, Linda or myself to see how Roy was doing. Now Roy is in camp, training as hard as he ever has, and none of us has time for these shenanigans." Jones is presently in Pensacola preparing for the October 1 Tarver vs. Jones 3 IBO Light Heavyweight Championship bout, which will take place in Tampa, FL.

"Not only are they (WBC) not involved in the sanctioning of the bout but they do not even rank Antonio Tarver, recognized by many as THE light heavyweight champion of the world, in their top 10,"
said Jacobs. "Our only response is that following Roy's last fight, he underwent a CT scan in Pensacola and it was reported clear by the radiologist. He has been deemed 100 percent fit and ready to fight."

                hmm

Jones has been medically cleared to fight according to his attorneys and advisors. He had a CT scan. He was tested in Memphis after the fight with Glen and also when he arrived home in Pensacola. The brain is a very mysterious thing though so even with tests you never know what effects won't rear their heads until later in Roy's life. However, Troy Aikman had 11 concussions (in the pros alone) and he seems fine and dandy. Obviously, Roy might be more prone to be concussed now.

But basically, the fight is on and that's that. WBC has nothing to do with this fight anyway. We just have to hope Jones is serious and is not taking his health lightly. Jones doesn't drink or smoke or do drugs and is notorious for clean-living so I would think that he is not taking his comeback or his health lightly. Still, you never know. One last shot at glory will make sane men do foolish things. Only after the fight will we know if it was foolish or not.
