the author shoots a big hole in his argument about cherry picking. If Bernard Hopkins needed a male cheerleader, I would be among the first to apply.

he says hopkins is old and at the end of his career, and has been at the end of his career.
then to compare pacquiao and his cherry picking, asking why pacquiao gets guff for cherry picking, while POINTING OUT pacquiao is STILL IN HIS PRIME.
well, while one is in his prime and inst fighting top fighter and is cherry picking, then hell yes, we ought to be calling him out for it, he ought to be having his feet and his promoters feet to the flames to make the good fights, not fluff fights.
big difference between hopkins and pacquiao when it comes to picking opponents, one has earned the right to fight whoever he wants, and the other is earning that right, but the thing is, the one who is trying to earn it (pacquiao) is already fighting like he's in the twilight of his career.
and for the record, pascal called out hopkins, and it was a good ove to take a fight with him verses a dawson calling him out due to the financial factor. a dawson fight wouldn't have sold sheit for tickets. the balance between the two is undeniable, pascal was where the better money and exposure would be, so it's no surprise why hopkins took the fight.Comment

I think the biggest issue is...why does PacMan get accolades as the best fighter of this era, and BHop doesn't. Just a glance at their resume speaks volumes of BHops status.Comment

pretty simple...manny fights and beats grossly bigger men, while hopkins feasts on catchweight fights with middleweights and avoids the fighters like chad dawson...Comment

I used to make a very similar arguement for Mayweather when he was accused of only fighting smaller guys. People talk about him fighting JMM (coming off a two year layoff) and Hatton (who started fighting professionally at same time as Mayweather and is a career 140 while Mayweather started at 130.) Yet, they have no issue with most of B-Hop's signature wins coming against guys moving up in weight. Tito, de la Hoya, Winky, and Pavlik were all comign up to fight him. Even Calzage was moving up to fight him. So why is it OK for B-Hop to constantly fight smaller guys and Mayweather is blasted for doing it twice (actually once because he's not naturally bigger than Hatton?) But now, that its time to defend Pac, B-Hop's resume is put under a much bigger microscope. Amazing.Comment

i will go in with you.
On a side note about the article, to the author, why the pass for Hopkins and not for Marquez? Hops gets KD early in the fight and goes on to win every single round after. You say he should have won and was cheated. What about PAc/JMM 1 and 2? Same exact circumstances you Manny nuthugger. How come you dont put that in your article?Comment

Roy Jones dominated the light heavyweight division and beat a top fleight heavyweight. And most of the years he spent doing that, he could have easily fought as a supermiddleweight and maybe a middleweight. I don't ever recall his ass being kissed the way Pac's is for fighting bigger guys. Hell, he was actually criticized, much the way Mayweather is now, towards the end if his reign as P4P King for not fighting the best competition. Pac isn't doing anything RJ didn't, and he's not nearly as dominate. So your stance really doesn't hold much water.Comment
