I believe Cotto is the future and something special but Mayweather is something really special in my opinion. I don't see anyone beating him from 147 on down.
The thing which I dont understand about Scott Harrison is he used to be such a clever thinking boxer and his strength and power were just an added bonus, yet since his first encounter with Medina(which I was ringside at and along with thousands of others did see he was ill and vomiting into a bucket pre fight)he has left his boxing behind and now goes for the offensive style and does'nt take a backwards step.
If he was to return to the ways of old I would give him a chance against anyone at the weight.
There was even talk of a fight with Barrera or Morales back then and alot of top boxing pundits gave him a good chance but the last two years have been so bumpy that its as if he has forgotten how to return back to basics.
However enough about that, this is a Cotto thread afterall.
I honestly believe Cotto will be the next big houshold name and he was supposed to have said beating Abdulev was his "demons to rest" fight as this was avenging his defeat from the amatuers and he said its time to get down to business now.(dunno how much truth is in that as I read it in another forum.
I have alot of respect for what Cotto is and what he can become. He has great control over both his offense and defense and has his head on straight. That being said, I can not see Cotto landing much on Mayweather. If anything Cotto is TOO controled and calculating to be free swinging enough to pull Mayweather into a brawl, which is were Cotto will need the fight to be because I just dont see anyone right now that can box with Mayweather and win on the cards. I think Hatton poses a bigger threat to Mayweather than Cotto at this point, and I still see Mayweather beating Hatton.
If it happened in the next few months...the realistic pick would be Floyd.
I have personally been higher on Cotto than anyone else here I believe (besides maybe Borikua)...so if they ever fight ill be putting much loot on Cotto by late TKO.
Cotto is accurate, powerful, devastating to the body, and has pretty quick hands. I think he could beat Floyd, but it's more likely to happen at 147 than 140.
Of course Floyd would be the favorite right now, Cotto is still to green but give him 1-2 years and he will be ready for Floyd, he just needs to keep fighting better and better comp and meet Floyd at 147/154, I would like to see Cotto against the likes of Hatton, Witter, etc...first.
Mayweather is to fast for Cotto. Mayweather will win this by late stoppage. Cotto's chin is questionable, just like most Puerto Rican fighters. My Puerto Rican friends don't take this the wrong way, it's the fact.
