Joe's a talented fighter no doubt......but his Welsh fans talk about his Lacy win like he stopped Godzilla.

He's a good fighter. His best win was an 8 rds to 4 victory over Mikkel Kessler.

He's not in the same league historically as Bernard Hopkins, RJJ and James Toney..........

who was calzaghe in the 90s anyway?
he was a noname, nobody knew him.
the only mentionable fight he had back then was the eubank fight, and after that fight, he kept fighting bums to boost his record & keep his zero.
if jones had fought & beaten him back then, everyone would be saying right now that he was just another bum roy destroyed.
sorry to say that but its true, and i am not only saying this as a roy jones fan, just looking at it from a realistic point of view.
calzaghe had a good fight against hopkins, i give him credit for that, but fighting roy jones jr. in 08 just showed how big of a ***** calzaghe in reality is.
he decided to fight the boxer he was avoiding his whole career at the worst stage of his career, well done!
imo this will go down as one of the biggest ***** moves in boxing history.

joe calzaghe(the great) compared to some of his peers. rankings by ring magazine.

calzaghe 8 out of 21 title defenses against top 10 ranked opponents
ottke 9 out of 21 title defenses against top 10 ranked opponents
hopkins 16 out of 20 title defenses against top 10 ranked opponents

calzaghe 9 out of 22 title fights(at super-middle) against top 10 ranked opponents
ottke 10 out of 22 title fights(at super-middle) against top 10 ranked opponents
hopkins 20 out of 24 title fights(at middle-weight) against top 10 ranked opponents

calzaghe 12 total fights against guys ranked in the top 10(all divisions)
ottke 12 total fights against guys ranked in the top 10(all divisions)
hopkins 26 total fights against guys ranked in the top 10(all divisions)

as floyd mayweather would say "women lie, men lie, calzaghe fanboys lie, but rankings don't lie!"

you are probably thinking to yourself but but ottke and calzaghe are undefeated and hopkins is a bum with several losses and draws. hopkins fought much tougher competition and has several controversial losses and draws while ottke and calzaghe have several controversial wins. records can be so deceiving.

when your flimsy swiss cheese resume is on par with sven ottke are you really an all time great?

when your best win is a gift decision over a 43 year old hopkins are you really an all time great? everyone should have seen the video evidence of this by now but i can show how hopkins outlanded calzaghe by a wide margin and landed the much harder punches in at least 6 rounds. but calzaghe did throw a lot...so....there's that.

when you never fight the best guy in the division you spent your career in are you an all time great? sven ottke and joe calzaghe somehow managed to defend their titles 21 times at the very same time in the very same division without ever fighting each other. how is that possible! fraud fest!

when you retire when the iron is hot for several great legacy fights are you an all time great?

when you had to cheat to win a large majority of your fights are you really an all time great? calzaghe the early stoppage king had the refs hand him undeserved wins when opponents weren't even allowed a fair chance at winning. most of his "knockouts" were stopped when the opponent wasn't hurt at all, sometimes they weren't even being hit, and sometimes they were even hitting calzaghe and the fight was stopped! ever heard of earning your victory? watch out for the he would have won anyway people!

it's pathetic how some fighters want to make a name for themself by beating an old lion..the same thing goes for holmes and berbick when they fought ali.now we had slappy joe beat roy and we gonna see duckqiao beat mosley or even his victory against drained oscar..that sh** don't count because you can't realy except praise by fighting the old past the prime lion.

first man in over 70 years to win aba championship in 3 different weight classes 3 years on the trot.24 world title fights,22 defences 46-0 and easily the greatest career 168 pounder in history and unless i'm mistaken i believe he's one of only 2 fighters in history to be ring champion in 2 weight classes at the same time.you can make any resume in history look worse if you really want to but that seems pretty special to me.and regarding jones and hopkins there are lots of different stories about talks to fight them in their primes which came down to money or venue, calzaghe didnt want to go to america but they sure as hell didnt want to go to wales either.all we know for absolute certain is an past it version of joe fought past it versions of hop and roy and joe won.get over it,he's an all time great legend.
