    hmm

Yeah, one thing I noticed in the amatuers was that Roy had a lot more of a brawling style back then. Even with bigger guys he seemed to brawl more. That's why I feel he would have beaten Gerald in the pros by outboxing him.

It's amazing when you think about how he went to lightheavy, after being 139 lbs in the amateurs at 16 or 17. I fight at 141 as an amatuer and I am 19 and I could never imagine fighting guys who weigh 175 lbs. That'd be death.

      Well...............

I more than held my own sparring with RJ. You can see it on the tape. The thing is I had good defense, held my hands high and that worked with well with RJ. If you were slower than him and hands werenth igh it could be NO FUN LOL. I never sparred Gerald, though. When RJ and I sparred I was a top rated 165 pounder and he was a top rated 156 pounder. RJ had sharp power, though, as sharp as any 165 at that time.

        hmm

Damn, you fought at 165? Wow, you looked so much bigger than Roy in that tape. That's crazy. I seriously thought you could have been a cruiserweight. Tape quality is not all that on there but I could tell you were bigger. Yeah you def looked good in there. Yall went to war. Good stuff.

          165

YEAH, I was 165 and RJ was 156. He was my height or maybe a touch taller and he fought with a 'taller' style, too, so the size was comparable. In the gym there isnt much difference between a 156 and a 165

Lol I know I'm gonna get flamed/dissed hardcore for this but is John Scully the same Scully that trains Clay-Bey and some other good fighters. I heard that the "Scully" was puttin out a book, mainly about Roy and I'm wondering if they are two different people, which tey probably are.

i'd like to see this tape...it seemed early in roy's career he like to stay in the pocket more throwing lots of combos instaed of the light heavy weight version of backing up and counter-pot shoting 1 shot at a time. do feel what happened to gerald influenced his change in style or is it a combination of that plus age?
