Really, Why Was Manfredo Fighting Calzaghe?

Calzaghe was 42-0 and rated #1 SMW in the world.

Manfredo cound't win the contender at 158lb. In the competition he was beaten by the much smaller 12-2 Alfonso Gomez and Sergio Mora. And he could only beat novie Joey Gilbert on a close fight.

Manfredo wasn't even ranked in the top 10 in the Ring at the time.

His best wins were Alfonso Gomez, Scott Pemberton & Joe Spina. He was also really small for 168lb. But yet he was expected to have a chance against the best 168lb'er of all time?

Shortly after the Calzaghe fight, a shot Jeff Lacy beat him and Sakio Bika stopped him in 3.

Really why was this ever made? Whu didn't Cazlaghe fight a ranked unbeaten contender etc Jean Pascal, Carl Froch, etc.

Neither Pascal nor Froch were ranked at the time either.

Prolly would have been better options thpough.

        Baffles me still.

It was a terrible fight. Truly embarrassing.

As soon as they faced-off in the ring I knew it was going to be stopped early. Calzaghe looked 3 weight-classes bigger in addition to being levels about Manfredo anyway.

It was for you, America. Seriously no-one in the UK even knew who Manfedo was.
