When judging a round with a knockdown, are you supposed to judge the kd separately compared to the rest of the round? I know that you should win the rest of the round to get a 10-8 round, but does the kd punch or punches count when considering (not the fact that the guy went down, but the punch), or is the whole kd sequence left out when judging the rest of the round.

There's no clear guidance on judging. It's very subjective and depends on the judge. IMO, there should be a clear and concise set of criteria for which judges should rely on. Basically everyone has their own way of doing things which differs from one person to next and as a result of that, boxing scorecards are not always consistent and/or make sense.
As to the thread topic, I almost always score a round with a knockdown a 10-8 round even if the fighter who caused the knockdown would have lost the round if not for the knockdown. The only the time I would score the round 10-9 in favor of the fighter who caused the knockdown, would be if said fighter was dominated the whole round.Comment

I usually score kd rounds 10-8 as well unless it's a clear round for the other fighter, but all these arguments in the bhop fight and the mares fights are starting to make me hesitate. A lot of people were trying to give mares and bhop 9-10 rounds when they got knocked down but didn't dominate the rest of the rounds. There's no clear guidance on judging. Case in point, I scored this a 10-8 round for Rivera in round 6:
He cleary would have lost the round but the knockdown made it a 10-8 round. If Berto had wobbled Rivera and came close to knocking him down then I would have scored it 10-9 for Rivera.Comment

that should be a 10-8, do you have an example of a round you gave 10-9 with a knockdown?
I can't remember when I have, but I think I have a couple of times.
I thought Pascal should haev gotten a 10-8 in rounds 1 and 3, bernstein gae him 10-9 in the third.
I still thought bhop won that fight though.Comment

I score a lot of rounds with KDs 10-9. Especially if the round is close and the other fighter isn't really hurt and its a flash KD or person is off balance. They really shouldn;t hold the same weight in scoring flash/off balance kds and REAL KD's. A recent example is Hopkins-Pascal rds 1 and 3. As compared to rd 10 of Maidana-Khan. How can you score a round Pascal was losing 10-8 just because he gets flash/off balance kd the same as the round Maidana had Khan out on his feet and dominated.Comment

To me if the guy knocks the other guy down, then i will score it a 10-8 round
The only way i will score a 9-9 round is if the guy who got knocked down won the rest of the round and without the KD would have gotten a 10-8 from me
For example if Khan KD Maidana in the 10th and Maidana still beat him up just as bad in that round, then i would have it a 9-9 round
A KD is part of the round, not a separate scoreComment
