Top Rank Promotions CEO, Bob Arum, is expecting a wild media tour to promote a junior middleweight collision between WBA champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28KOs), and challenger Ricardo Mayorga (29-7, 22KOs). Arum reached an agreement with fellow 79-year-old rival promoter, Don King, to match the fighters in the main event of a March 12 pay-per-view card from the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.

I just cannot understand why hr's fighting Mayorga

Yea it will an interesting tour and promotion but cotto is lightyears above him

I think I can still recall that when Mayorga fought Dela Hoya, he brought in live Chicken during interview promoting his fight! Mayorga's antics will difinetely create tension! But sad to say he lost very badly to Oscar!

It seems like that's the only way they can sell Mayorga, is by his antics. But I have a feeling Bob and Don will be sorely disappointed because I can't see Cotto buying in to the drama. If they have to rely on drama between promoters to sell the fight then they're in for some surprises themselves. No one cares if two old bats go at each other. I agree with whoever on here said that they're surprised Cotto agreed to this fight. WTH?

A promotion like this would make sense for Cotto personally in the sense that Mayorga's brashness will rally up Puertoricans behind Cotto. He's not as beloved as a Trinidad or a Juanma Lopez and this would do a lot of good to him on that aspect.

Expect a few PR flags to fly at press events a la Hopkins.

this will be interesting. cotto has an actitude that comes out when its necesary. this may be one of those times. although mayorga is careless and gets out of control at the press conferences and in the ring,i like this fight. i support it.

this is good fight. Mayorga is going to do the usual.. all the verbal sht and insults. would be nice to see how Cotto keeps his cool. I still think Cotto gots this by stoppage.
