DiBella: Berto Ready To Face Miguel Cotto on March 12

    By Rick Reeno

Promoter Lou DiBella advised BoxingScene.com that WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto is ready to move up in weight to challenge Miguel Cotto for the WBA's 154-pound title on March 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Berto was under consideration to face Manny Pacquiao on May 7. The expected opponent, Shane Mosley, finalized a deal on Tuesday to face Pacquiao on the May date.

Cotto's promoter, Top Rank, is considering three opponents for his March return, which includes Vanes Martirosyan, Pawel Wolak and Ricardo Mayorga.

"Obviously when Mosley and Pacquiao finalized their deal, we lost two possible options at welterweight. Once you get past Mosley and Pacquiao, there are very few options at 147 and very few of these guys at 140 are willing to move up. I would make the fight with Cotto in a second. I would not overprice Berto for that fight. Meeting Cotto at 154 is not a dealbreaker. Cotto's promoter [Top Rank CEO] Bob Arum knows my number. We can easily get that deal done, but I don't think Arum wants to make that fight," DiBella said to BoxingScene.com.

NOW Bob Arum says Berto should fight Marquez.

If that ain't blatantly protecting your fighters than I don't know what is.
    Son, you made a statement.

How the hell is it balatantly protecting your fighter?

You tried to make it out that Cotto was gonna fight Berto so that JMM wouldn't even get a shot at bERTO.

    bACKFIRED ON YOUR ASS.

P-killer is staying true to his username by killing these pu$$ies on NSB..lol

It's not that Marquez has to prove himself as a fighter per say, rather his ability to be effective above 135.

JMM can't beat any fighter in the top 7 at JWW yet he is suppose to beat Manny at 140? GTFOH with that bull****!

IMHO, JMM should just stay at LW.

There's still some interesting fights there that could be made. If he wants to move up that badly and make money, fight Morales.

Exactly, I don't discredit JMM, he is a great fighter at 135 or less. You talk a lot of sense.

However just the mention of Berto at 147 makes you think oh ****, can he actually handle Berto?

Pac was thin at 130, now he has bulked up.

Adamek lost to Chad Dawson at 175.

Is Chad still gonna beat Adamek at HW?

Even if Chad beats Hopkins and Pascal, doesn't mean he can beat Adamek as a HW etc...

So JMM won't fight someone at 147 or even 140, yet he "deserves" a fight with Pacquiao at 147. Shane didn't deserve **** either, but arguing that Berto or JMM are the equivalent of PBF at 147 is a joke. All three of them are 5-1 underdogs at a minimum.

              Exactly.

Pac and him fought at 130, not even 135.

Beating people at 135 does not mean you deserve **** at 147.

St Bully was good to leave this thread.

First people say Berto is too short for WW now he should be a 154 pounder where guys are even taller there. Maybe there should be a new weight class right between 140 and 147, maybe 144 where if you're too short for WW but too tall for 140 then you are a 144 pounder.

Cause if it's just that he's too short for WW but he's big enough for 154, wouldn't make sense.

Floyd beat JMM worse than Mosely. JMM didn;t win a round.

                    Mosely one one round.

Katsidis and Juan Diaz don't get you to Pac that is for sure.

Berto is the best opponent for Pacquiao, forget Marquez if it's at 147. Berto stops Marquez and i'd give him a good chance to beat Pacquiao.
