Either way, the fact is he signed a contract that had a contracted weight of 144lbs, which is a catchweight, regardless if he made the weight or not. And if he felt he would have to drain himself to make it, he shouldn't have signed it to begin with. It's all on him, which I could care less about that, but catchweights are a part of boxing. I don't agree with it but then I don't agree with much of the shenanigans anymore. I just want to see good fights...
What has hardly been mentioned since that fight either si that what happen with Mayweather-Marquez isn't at all uncommon in boxing, especially in non-title fights. I don't know how much boxing you watch. But when you watch fights at the lower levels, especially prospects coming up, guys often don't make weight and simply pay a penalty. It happens almost weekly on FNFs. Its really not even a big deal.

    • Let's see

In their last 5 fights they are....

      Berto: 5-0-0
      JMM: 4-1-0
      Mosley: 2-2-1

something aint right here.. the guys with the better record in the past 5 fights have to fight for a number 1 shot when the guy with the worst record of them all gets the green light first? Arum is a clown

Dude, 75% of the people who watched Pacquaio-Marquez II thought JMM won. Its not like Pac won a convincing decision. And back in 2008, Pacquaio-Marquez III was the biggest fight that could have been made. They were #1 and #2 P4P, just like Mayweather and Pac now. And further more, I don't think even the biggest Pacwh*re would disagree that JMM has taken the majority of the 24 rounds they've fought.

But in the end, all that is moot. The point I was making is that Pac being a favorite to beat JMM is no excuse not to fight him. Because many of the same ones using it as an excuse get on forums liek this one daily screaming Mayweather is ducking Pac. And according to the logic being used on this thread, there's no need for Money to fight Pac because he'll be favored to beat him.

BTW, Pac is going to be a bigger favorite to beat Mosley than he would be to beat JMM. So all in all, that excuse is extremely lame.

It's become much more common recently (Castillo, Corrales, Funika, Campbell, Joan Guzman, etc.) but really should not be acceptable. Everyone saw how much stronger Castillo was in his rematch with Corrales and that was a massacre. The thing is now it's become commonplace to pay a penalty and move on with the fight. I guess it is better than cancelling a telecast I am looking forward to (me being selfish here) but it really shouldn't happen as often as it does. It seems to be fighters are not as dedicated as they used to be back in the day. But oh well, there is so much that needs to be changed I guess the weight issues are minor compared to some of the horrendous decisions we have seen in the past. I think the first fix is to get judges that aren't in their 60's or 70's, that can actually see and are not going senile...

I think the weight issues are basically irrelevant in an era of weigh-ins 30 hours or more before the fight and 17 divisions. Most guys nowadays are fighting a division or two higher than they would with same day weigh-ins anyway.

I didn't say he beat him easily, I said he got the decision. I don't know about 75% think JMM won but I would say it's 50-50. Either way, I would love to see him fight JMM but the Pacquaio vs. JMM 2 only did 400k PPVs. Mosley vs. Pacquaio will break a 1 million PPVs and I don't think Pacquaio vs. JMM 3 would come close to a million, probably closer to 700k like Clottey. Plus, no casual fan even cared about JMM vs. Katsidis, which was an awesome fight and the arena was virtually empty. Hard to justify a $5 million guarantee when that is your last set of numbers. And with a Mosley fight, you can charge more for seats which creates more revenue as well...

Dude, Pacquaio-Marquez II took place wayyyyyyy before MannyPacquaio was Manny Pacquaio. Back then, only those in the hardcore fight community knew who he was. His fanbase has doubled, probably even tripled since then. Actually, most of the people that ordered Pacquaio-Marquez II aren't gonna even order Pacquaio-Mosley, nor did they order his fighs with Margarito or Clottey. Pacquaio-Marquez III would easily do what Pacquaio-Mosley will do, probably more, especially on Cinco de Mayo weekend.

LW to WW is two divisions pal, JMW would be three.

Manny cannot compete with the skills of Marquez. He is not content with it being a LW vs JWW, that fight would have to be a LW vs WW before Manny will even look at Marquez.

                      P4P pu$$y.

Not enough to demand $5 million + an upside to the PPV total (which wouldn't amount to even a million PPVs probably like 700K like Clottey because nobody knows JMM). JMM vs. Katsidis had must see TV written all over it an nobody but us hardcore fans cared. Mosley brings more money to the table, just look at Floyd Jr's numbers vs both Marquez and Mosley. One was clearly superior to other. Mosley did better PPV number and they charged more for tickets than for JMM. Mosley is greater than JMM when it comes to money (but definitely not skills though, at least anymore)...
                      Huh ?

You replied to a question about weight, with an excuse about PPV buys ?

                      Because.....
you have to be a huge draw to fight Manny, like Clottey was. Right ?

                      No, wait.....
