Dan Rafael Quick Hits - (HBO turned down Cotto-Vanes for 1.5 Mills)

    Good read:

"Cotto has been on HBO for seven years and they rejected a decent Cotto fight. I don't think they know s---. We offered it for a bargain price. They said 'no' and are going with another fight. That is going to affect all of our relationships in the coming years and I emphasize all of our relationships."

"They won't buy Cotto, but it's their money. You can't tell them how to spend their money," Arum said. "But it's wrong that they would do this to Cotto, who has given them great ratings and great fights. Not doing a good fight with Cotto at a reasonable number and then jumping on his date? That's wrong."

They're already giving Martinez that date.

They know damn well Cotto is pretty much done, and Uncle Bob is just keeping him safe from the people HBO would like to see him fight (Martinez, Angulo, even Cintron) until the Cotto/Margarito II PPV.

Bob's gonna cash in one last time and then let him fight a real thread like Martinez. HBO'd rather not bother with Cotto until then. Correct play by HBO.

HBO is focusing on new big names right now.

They know Cotto is done. Sadly.

I don't buy the whole "Cotto is done" deal because he stills packs crowds and he'll have better PPV numbers than any Sergio Martinez fight as it stands.

I got a feeling Sergio's March 12th date is going to be moved up. Keep in mind as well, HBO isn't going to sacrifice a date for Martinez if it means having bad business with Manny Pacquiao's promoter, who's made HBO quite a lot of money in recent years.

HBO is concerned with the fading numbers of African-American viewers, so Greenberg have been pushing Berto, Bradley, Alexander and now ****ing Judah really hard.

Like I said, HBO wanted Cotto to fight Angulo, Cintron, and Martinez but Uncle Bob is keeping him away from any more potential losses until the Margarito rematch.

HBO knows this, so they're not even going to bother with Cotto right now.

Incorrect. Manny is a PPV fighter now, and PPVs hurt HBO not help them. They simply get a fee from the promoter to produce the broadcast, meanwhile the PPV takes potential viewers away from HBO. HBO have stated numerous times they'd rather PPV did not exist, but if they don't produce it then the promoter will go to someone like Showtime or ESPN.

Andre Berto is HBOs golden boy. HBO isn't ******ed. They're trying to build up new stars. Martinez, Berto, Canelo, etcetc. it was a good move by HBO.
