let's keep it real. whether you like pac or not, you know this fight does little or nothing for pac's legacy. from rounds 3 to 12, shane looked old and hesitant against floyd, and looked slow and clumsy against mora. this ain't the shane we all know and love.
the question is, why are y'all expecting this fight to be more than it is?
pac had three viable options: mosley, marquez and berto. whether at 140 or 147, marquez had no chance of winning a fight against manny. the best he could hope for was a couple of competitive rounds, but we all know he would be ineffective anywhere above 135. marquez would probably still give pac a hard time at lightweight, but few people think pac can reach 135 any longer. even if he could, truth is that since marquez moved up to lightweight, his foot movement has virtually disappeared. he beat diaz and katsidis on effective combinations and counters, but i think you'd need more than that to beat pac these days. this fight would have ended with an early knockout, probably with the referee stepping in to save marquez who's too proud for his own good.
andre berto does not have the talent or the skills to survive pacquiao. you cannot win decisions against luis collazo and call yourself a viable challenge for pac. you cannot be troubled by a shot carlos quintana and call yourself in the same league as pac. even marquez was a worthier opponent, based on his record and his history with pac. but berto... this guy would get KOd in 6 rounds.
mosley... sadly, he's the worst choice of all, legacy-wise. he's old and way, way past prime. but so was holmes when he faced tyson. so was louis when he faced marciano. so was sugar ray robinson in every one of his fights in the 60s.
but this isn't a legacy fight. the whole universe knows that the only legacy fight left for pacquiao is a battle with floyd mayweather, and that ain't happening.
gentlemen, this is a SHOWCASE fight. and one that y'all are gonna watch, because it involves one of the two best fighters in the world, manny pacquiao. mosley's career is done and he knows it... that's why golden boy cut him. he wants one last payday, and the boxing world, and fans, will give it to him. this is the equivalent of a slam dunk competition in the NBA, all flash and no significance.
once y'all realize that, then maybe you'll just sit back and give mosley the applause he deserves.
i'm done.
