Amir Khan does not believe that taking on Floyd Mayweather in his next fight would be in his own best interests.
The WBA world light welterweight champion plans at least one more defence of his title before considering stepping up a division to take on 'Money' Mayweather at welterweight.
Khan told BBC Radio: "It's a possibility in the future. A lot of people say I want to fight Mayweather next.
"I want to fight Mayweather in 12 months. It gives me time to mature and to get more experience.
"Hopefully around April I want to get one more fight in before I unify the division."
Khan would also like the contest to be on home soil. "Before the end of 2011 or even in England at the beginning of 2012," he added.
"The interest would be huge in England. I want to bring the biggest fights over here. To get a Mayweather to fight in England would be a huge success."
Last week the Bolton fighter successfully defended his title for the third time with a thrilling points victory over Marcos Maidana in Las Vegas.
