This guy and his camp tell the media that he's 100% fit - no injuries like in his previous fights and that he feels better than ever.
He's fighting in Canada, has thousands of people (and the judges) behind him and all the advantages that come when you're the younger fighter and having home field advantage.
Yet, he gets a hard time by Hopkins who doesn't get ANY sort of acknowledge from the Showtime commentators - writing Hopkins out of the fight as early as in round 2 (two!!), and talking really big about the 1st knockdown as if it was as big as the one Toney did on Prince Charles.
Every time Hopkins connected with clean shots the commentators went past it as if they didn't see a thing and yet 2 seconds later praising Pascal for his unclean punching. Pure nonsense.
That sort of bias commentating is not suitable on fight night or any other night for that matter. I really didn't expect that from SHO - and especially not from Antonio Tarver. Man, did he sound really bitter that night. Probably still having nightmares about Hopkins beating his lame ass in his own division.
Most amusing part is this:
If Pascal was (or pretended to be) a gentleman in his fight with Dawson, both before and post fight, then he surely missed/messed it here by implying that "Hopkins fought ugly, dirty and that he wasn't THAT tough" and going further by saying "this wasn't my best fight, I can do a lot better".
Mother****er, didn't you just say that you were 100% fit, physically AND mentally, and that you felt better now than you've done in years due to (shoulder) injuries in past fights?
I guess you wasn't as honest and big hearted you pretended to be. Admit you lost on your own soil and you got played by a great veteran who's paid more years to the sport than in your entire life. Pay your respect to the better man and build on your loss - don't go out like that.
Jean Pascal, I don't see anything coming near a champion in this guy. My guess is he won't last long in this sport nor holding on to his belt. Unless, they want him to be a protected fighter and doing in-house fights with nobodies only. A path Lucian Bute is likely following.
