One thing I noticed is that Maidana has that straight right hand (which is still not exactly straight) he throws on the ropes, but he also has a different right hand to catch guys that are moving away from him (like Khan was trying to do in the 10th). It is also is a good punch for countering (landed on Khan in the 1st). It works particularly well against the taller opponent. He caught Khan 2 or 3 times earlier in the fight but they were on the top of the head. Roy Jones even mentioned this punch and said that if it lands on the chin it will be trouble. Then in the 10th Khan got caught flush on the jaw. Khan couldn't understand where this punch was coming from.
Anybody notice the similarity between that Maidana right and the Martinez left? The way these guys throw it is very unorthodox and it is very hard to see. The angle at which the punch comes from is very weird indeed. They move the head down, almost facing in a different direction at times (which makes countering it difficult) and then they bring it up from behind the shoulder. The follow through (punching through) is what seems to put a lot of power on these punches.
