oh yeah, they had a good rivalry going, my friend who is a boxing historian told me that manny steward had to have pryor and hearns come in the gym at separate times because all pryor would do is taunt hearns and want to fight non stop.

he also told me that pryor wanted to fight everyone, all the time, no matter size or strength, he was a beast, and his favorite was sparring, because basically he turned them into gym wars.

thats why no one wanted anything to do with pryor, to high of a risk vs the reward and fighting pryor not only was tough as hell, he would make you look bad against him, so it was a no win situation, especially during the 80's when guys were trying to become cash cows.

alexis is the only one who really stepped up and sadly got the ass end of it.

if you look at pryors style, it doesn't change from the amateurs to the pros, he only refines his game a bit and that was after he trained with steward as a professional well into his career.

pryor was beast, next to hopkins, he's my all time favorite fighter......... his whole dynamic as a fighter was supernatural.......

It's just a myth that these big names were avoiding Pryor. For one, Pryor was fighting @ 140, and the big names were in a different division.

More importantly, Pryor DID have offers to fight Leonard (Pryor discusses this after the Blackmoore fight) and Duran for far more money than he'd ever made before. Pryor wanted more money against Leonard (it actually turned out to be a good business move since he got more money a couple years later for a much more winnable fight in Arguello), and he had managerial issues that messed up the Duran fight. One of his managers was a criminal who got arrested for embezzlement, and that (along with Pryor's wife shooting him) screwed up a unification bout @ 140 with Mamby.

Pryor liked to make a point when being dropped to show that the KD didn't mean ****.

yeah thats what i keep hearing but the people who i know and have told me otherwise, i tend to believe them a bit more since they were around those days, and not a child like i was. my close friend was an insurance guy and he had dealings with boxing promoters back in the day and he has story after story, all of which i have found to be true.

im not saying what you're saying is wrong, im' just saying i've been privy to other information about this subject and tend to believe inside info vs what i'm told over the airwaves..........

either way, Pryor was great, great for the sport, and boxing needs another one just like him!!!!!!!

The Johnson and Kameda fights were really exciting. Doesn't get talked about much, people always talk about the Arguello fights, but those fights were excellent.

So Pryor decided to make up a story about Leonard offering him a fight?

dunno, i'm not trying to get into any pissing match, just saying what i've been exposed to.

anywho, you're right about pryor and his other fights, he's only known throughout the scene from moderate fans for the arguello fights...... when he has a whole career that is full of great fights.

to be honest, pryor has never been in a dull, lackluster fight, he's always been exciting, and i watch his fights whenever i get the chance. they get me hyped.........

that and hopkins vs tito........ that gets me hyped up too.

I'm not either, I was just responding to that other guy regarding that topic.

Does there exist a copy of the Johnson fight in good quality? Every copy I've seen of that fight has pretty poor quality.

Hopkins-Trinidad is one of my favorite schoolings. I've watched that fight many times.
