Paulie doesn't have enough power to keep a female lightweight off him, but he thinks he'll be sucesssful at welter ? Good luck. I'm sure he's not at a loss for excuses at least, he's gonna need em

Firstly, Oscar knows the value of an Italian American, working class fighter in the pugilist market place. Some things don't change. Although I cannot compare Paulie with "Irish" Mickey Ward for many reasons, just look at the attention Ward is receiving after his glorious career. Ward is the definition of the blue collar boxer in America and his impact on the sport cannot be ignored. Without guys like Mickey and Paulie and Lovemore and the countless fighters of all nationalities who will never be Ray Leonard, there would be no fight game.
But let's be honest. Jason Litzau is more marketable due to his heritage then the gentleman he vanquished. The underdog factor also has a place in this equation.

Secondly, Paulie was signed because the prospect of a pure boxer beating Saul can hardly be discounted. Based on what I have seen of Alvarez, he has a great deal to learn and 39 victories do not appear to have taught him enough about himself to face competition that is not stacked. Paulie taking him to school is not out of the question. Therefore De La Hoya smuggles a page from the Bob Arum playbook and covers his ass both ways.
As I was saying. Some things don't change.

If you care, watch, or even think about Paulie Malingaggay you are not a real boxing fan.

              lolol,

Paulie is fighting a former Super-Featherweight in his 147 debut.
in comperison to Cotto who fought an undefeated, coming outta a big win Quintana for his 147 debut.

Terrible post. Cotto was dehydrated at 140 and coming off a good victory over Paulie. Paulie is moving up after a one-sided KO loss. Theres no comparison.

I think Paulie should just hang them up. He had absolutely no power at the lighter weights, how the hell is he going to deal with bigger guys, who hit harder and can take his punch easily. I think this ends tragically like it did for Chico Corrales when he moved up to 147 lbs to fight Clottey and Clottey battered him. I see the same happening for Paulie...

What country are you from man? Latinos support boxing way more than white people do in America. Vast majority of young white people are into UFC, not boxing.

As for Malignaggi, his name doesn't mean anything outside of New York/New Jersey except to hardcore boxing heads. There isn't any large Italian American population flexing their heritage when Paulie comes out, not like there was with Gatti. There were just as many people supporting Khan in NY as there were Paulie, and that's Paulies backyard.
