    Judge reinstates Mayweather arrest warrant

LAS VEGAS — A judge has reinstated an arrest warrant for boxer Floyd Mayweather jnr on a misdemeanor battery complaint for his run-in with a security guard over parking tickets.

Las Vegas police Officer Bill Cassel said Thursday that the warrant, first issued on December 8, requires Mayweather to turn himself in or face arrest at any time.

Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Tony Abbatangelo signed the arrest warrant for Mayweather after a December 7 court hearing, but immediately quashed it.

Abbatangelo said at the time that he would allow Mayweather to remain free, noting that the fighter was already at liberty on 33,000 dollars bail ahead of a January 24 arraignment date on an unrelated charge.

But prosecutors argued this week that Mayweather had received special treatment and the arrest warrent was reinstated.

If convicted of the misdemeanor batter charge, Mayweather faces a possible six-month jail sentence and a 1,000-dollar fine.

The charge stems from a November incident in which Mayweather was involved in a dispute with a 21-year-old security guard outside Mayweather's home, the fighter being accused of poking his finger in the face of the homeowners' association guard.

Mayweather, 41-0 with 25 career knockouts, was once regarded as the world's top pound-for-pound fighter, but his inability to make a deal for a megafight with Filipino star Manny Pacquiao and legal woes have dimmed the US boxer's star in the past year.

Mayweather is also facing charges of felony robbery, coercion and grand larceny as well as misdemeanor domestic battery and harassment charges in connection with an argument with the mother of his children at her house.
