I just ordered HD TV for Directtv, it won't come until Friday though because Directv has to drop off a new receiver and replace my satellite.

I purchased a set of HDMI cables yesterday, I don't know what the heck they do aside from allowing you to play xbox 360 games in HD, first of all, why are there 2 HDMI ports on the back of my TV? What would the second port be for?

      2nd question
: Do I NEED HDMI cables to watch HD TV? My TV didn't come with any cables at all, just the TV and the thing to plug it in.

Let's say I don't need the HDMI cable to watch HD TV, will using the HDMI cable improve the already HD picture?

If you don't understand what I'm asking just tell me so I can rephrase it.

I want my TV's picture to look like the bad ass ones that they have on display at stores.

-thanks, appreciate it. Green k for whoever can help me.
1 . you have two hdmi ports because you can have your xbox in one and a blue ray dvd or your directv in the other.

      2. The Directv box will come with hdmi cables.

the 2nd HDMI port is there so you can connect other things ie. blu ray players aswell as your 360.

Yes to watch true HD TV you need a HD cable box/reciever and you have to use the hdmi.
Your directtv box will most likely have a hdmi out so connect a hdmi cable from that to your tv and use your second port for your xbox so you can watch both in HD

          2nd Source or input.

1st source could be your knew HD receiver from Cable/Sat provider.
          2nd can be your X-Box 360.

Component Cables work just fine, in providing HD picture up to 1080P.

Ok son let me break it down for you. HDMI cables is a compact audio/video interface for transmitting uncompressed digital data. It's better than regular cables because it transmits both sound and video on a single cable. Also it's the best because no quality is lost during transmission.

I got a Samsung 55 inch LED TV last year and Directtv service. The direct tv guy told me that using analog cables instead of HDMI cables is not the way to go. He recommended using HDMI cables to get the best out of the HD experience. If you already spent all that money might as well get the cables too. My TV didn't come with the HDMI cables either you have to buy them yourself and they are expensive. Don't buy the monster brand they are the most expensive and unnecessary unless you got money to blow. My picture is great and the only thing not hooked up with HDMI is my old VCR because it doesn't have jacks. Oh and the extra HDMI port is so that you have more than 1 port to hook up accessories. MY tv has 4 of them, it is a good thing. Enjoy and as usual read your owners manual for manufactures recommendation.

Again I recommend for best picture quality getting the HDMI cables.
