    Magee as Bute's Opponent

Some people on this site are criticizng Brian Magee as being Lucian Bute's next opponent. Let's analyze the independent SMW rankings as provided by Boxrec.com,

    BoxRec Super Middleweight Rankings:

1 Lucian Bute, 27-0, Cannot Fight Himself
2 Andre Dirrell, 19-1, Nueroglical issue and associated complications with Showtime
3 Carl Froch, 27-1, Tied in with Super6
4 Andre Ward, 23-0, Tied in with Super6
5 Mikkel Kessler, 43-2, Recovering injury
6 Kelly Pavlik, 36-2, Dude hasn't fought in like a year and seems to be semi-retired anyway
    7 Robert Stieglitz, 39-2
8 Glen Johnson, 51-14-2, Tied in with Super6
    9 Dmitri Sartison, 27-1
    10 Garth Wood, 10-1-1
11 Arthur Abraham, 31-2, Tied in with Super6 and may be leaving 168 altogether
12 Librado Andrade, 29-3, Already KO'd by Bute
    13 William Gare, 27-14
14 Jesse Brinkley, 35-6, Already KO'd by Bute
    15 Brian Magee, 34-3-1

    SO REALLY,

as possible opponents, Bute has to choose from Robert Stieglitz, Dmitri Sartison, Garth Wood, William Gare, and Brian Magee.

Stieglitz is a guy who was KO'd by Andrade, and in all honesty, I doubt Stieglitz and his team would be up for coming to Canada and fighting Bute.

Sartison was brutally KO'd by Kessler some time ago and has never seemed like anything notable anyway.

Gare has 15 losses, Garth Wood only has 12 fights and is coming off a fluke KO win.

Brian Magee is an established opponent, and probably one of the better choice of opponents to be made under the circumstances.

We'd all love to see Bute fight Martinez, but that won't happen with HBO-Showtime Issues. Ward, Abraham, Froch fights won't happen until next year with Super6 Closing. Dirrell aparently suffered brain damage, and isn't even cleared to fight for a while.

So REALLY, Bute does not have a lot to choose from.

Sartison, Stieglitz perhaps would have been slightly better opponents, but only slighlty. Magee has some decent wins and a decent record.

Magee is not a bum, and one of the better opponent choices that can be made under the circumstances.

**The real truth** is that Bute should have just been in the Super6 from the beginning then this situation would have been avoided altogether.
